2020 was a special year for everyone. Everything became unpredictable due to the covid-19 pandemic. However, the spotlight has shined on the blockchain industry as it entered the 12th year of development.

In 2020, Bitcoin displayed stronger correlation with the global financial market. It survived the plummet of 40% on March 12 and then surged to a record high of US$29,000 by year end, which made it the best performing asset under the shadow of the pandemic.

In 2020, we saw a new landscape in public chains: the Ethereum 2.0 upgrade has been going well with the Beacon Chain going live upon the earliest anticipated launch time; popular public chains such as Polkadot and Filecoin followed on their roadmaps and launched mainnets successively.

In 2020, DeFi embraced an explosive growth, entering a so-called “Mining Era”. It was not rare to see new governance tokens skyrocketed straightaway after launch.

In 2020, the mining industry continued to show momentum. Miners of Bitcoin and Ethereum made excess earnings because of price surges of the cryptos. DeFi “farmers” reaped more than what they sowed through liquidity mining.

To record those highlighted moments in the blockchain field last year, PANews, along with data organizations, industrial media and communities, hosted the inaugural PARTY Award, PANews’ Retrospect of The Year Award, to review and celebrate developments and excellence in the past year and look forward to a more fruitful 2021. After over one month’s online voting and data evaluation, finally, 120 projects/companies and 46 individuals stood out and won the PARTY AWARD 2020.
