Microsoft announced it will invest $17.5 billion in India over the next four years to develop artificial intelligence.

PANews reported on December 9th that Microsoft (MSFT.O) announced a $17.5 billion investment over the next four years to develop artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure in India, its largest investment ever in Asia. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated after meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the investment aims to support India in building an "AI-first" future. With a population of 1.45 billion, India is becoming a key battleground in the global AI competition. Recently, several technology leaders, including Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodée, have visited the country.
