A man impersonating a Coinbase employee stole $16 million in cryptocurrency from approximately 100 users.

PANews reported on December 20th that, according to Decrypt, Brooklyn prosecutors stated a 23-year-old resident has been charged with stealing $16 million worth of cryptocurrency from approximately 100 Coinbase users. The man, allegedly using the online alias "lolimfeelingevil," is suspected of engaging in phishing and social engineering fraud. He impersonated a Coinbase representative, tricking users into sending cryptocurrency to accounts under his control by falsely claiming their digital assets were at risk of being hacked. He then used cryptocurrency mixers, exchange services, and cryptocurrency gambling websites to launder the money.
